MyPlaylist Finally Closes Its Doors

Myplaylist is now closed... Since the demise of Seeqpod last year who generously provided the music content via their API, this site been on death watch. Unfortunately that time has now come...

I could have switched to the YouTube API for content (like others in this sector have done) however, given the current climate with there now being many more advanced music discovery sites by companies who have gone to great lengths to make mutually advantageous deals with the music labels, IMO it is now time to stand aside and give these officially endorsed sites every opportunity to make their ventures a success.

History: There were many years of failed policies by the labels who fought to protect their copyright and refused to take advantage of new technology, it therefore left a vacuum in which other innovators filled and hence came offerings such as Myplaylist. (more...)

Music Technology is a rapidly growing field of study for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the music industry. What is it? Unlike traditional music courses, music technology prepares students for work at the operational level, behind the scenes. For this reason, many people consider it a far more practical field of study.

Music technology is often mistaken for another more established field, sound technology. But the two fields are actually quite different. While sound technology focuses solely on the production of sounds, music technology includes recording, editing and even composition.

The Move Forward

Isn't it amazing how technology has changed our lives over the last few years. It's that classic - when I was young - syndrome but it is true. New technology has changed our lives beyond all recognition, in so many aspects. Now you have cars and houses for sale on the internet, something which would have been unthinkable just a few short years ago.

Music is another area which has changed dramatically due to the new technology around now. Within living memory we used to play records (and woe betide you if you left them in the sun!) and to many people their record collection was their pride and joy.

Then we had cassettes, much more portable but equally fragile. At least records are still collectible, but you tend to find the old cassettes in junk and charity shops. (more...)
